POSITION: Griswold Scout Reservation Camp Director
Job Overview
Since 1912, the Daniel Webster Council (DWC) has delivered the Scouting program to New Hampshire youth, fostering a conscientious and productive society. The Griswold Scout Reservation (GSR), a 3,200+ acre property in the Belknap Mountains, serves as a four-season Scouting destination to deliver the aims of Scouting through our long-held methods of outdoor experiences.
The Griswold Camp Director reports to and works closely with the General Manager to lead staff and volunteers in delivering summer camp programming for youth ages 11 and up, ensuring a safe, fun, and memorable experience.
Essential Functions
- Provides training, coaching, and resources to ensure staff success.
- Communicates effectively with leadership, staff, volunteers, and parents.
- Anticipates operational needs, remaining calm under pressure.
- Ensures compliance with all relevant safety and operational standards (local, state, Scouting America, and American Camping Association).
Key Responsibilities
- Build a strong team focused on delivering an excellent camp experience.
- Oversee hiring and training processes, ensuring staff are well-prepared.
- Foster a culture of safety, cooperation, accountability, and customer service.
- Delegate supervision effectively, maintaining high staff morale through recognition and coaching.
- Uphold safety standards and emergency procedures.
- Resolve issues swiftly, maintaining customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with the Program Director and committees to ensure engaging camp activities.
- Ensure efficient administrative operations (e.g., registration, advancement, ordering).
- Promote the camp to maximize attendance.
- Assist with facility and program support projects.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the General Manager or Scout Executive/CEO.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Able to pass a criminal background check and register as a member of Scouting America.
- Complete National Camping School training prior to camp.
- Onsite residence is required from June 1 to mid-August. Year-round responsibilities include training, hiring, customer service, and other duties as assigned.
- Capable of meeting the physical and mental demands of the role, including outdoor work.
- Prior Scouting experience is preferred but not required.
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience. Room and board in a private furnished cabin are provided. Approved business-related expenses will be covered or reimbursed.
