The Daniel Webster Council’s Range and Target Activities Committee is dedicated to providing the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitude necessary for Scouts and Scouters to excel in any shooting sports program safely.

We are a group of registered volunteers who are shooting sports enthusiasts. We are committed to ensuring:

  • Superior training for Scouts and Volunteers
  • Exciting off-season programs
  • Support for Camp programs
  • Promote Range and Target Activities throughout the Daniel Webster Council.

Effective September 1, 2024: Scouting’s Shooting Sports programs within all programs including Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouting will be referred to as Range and Target Activities.

Cub Scouts

  • All Cub Scout BB and Archery events must be at a District or Council event/camp
  • BB or Archery Rangemaster
  • Your District Leadership can help

Older Youth Programs
Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scouts, Exploring

  • USA Archery Level 1 Instructor
  • NRA RSO + NRA Instructor (2 People)
  • 18+ Adult familiar with Knife/tomahawk throwing
To Become An Instructor

NRA Instructor

Complete all of the following courses:

  1. Basic Instructor Training Class
  2. Basic Rifle/Shotgun/Pistol /Muzzleloader Class
  3. Instructor in Rifle/Shotgun/Pistol/Muzzleloader

NRA Chief Safety Officer
Complete all of the following courses:

  1. Range Safety Officer
  2. Chief Range Safety Officer
What We Offer

NRA/ USA Archery/BSA Training

The DWC Shooting Sports Committee regularly offers NRA/US Archery and BSA training. Trainings are posted on the council Calendar (https://nhscouting.org/calendar/) and on the DWC Shooting Sports Committee Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/646661990042248).

NRA Classes Offered

Basic Instructor Training—needed to be an instructor in any NRA/BSA training discipline

Range Safety Officer— organize, conduct, and supervise safe shooting activities and range operations.

Chief Range Safety Officer—Develop Standard Operating Procedures and conduct RSO training

Rifle – Basic & Instructor—teaches safe operation of rifles and the teaching skills needed to train new instructors

Shotgun—Basic & Instructor—teaches safe operation of shotguns and the teaching skills needed to train new instructors

Pistol—Basic & Instructor—teaches safe operation of pistols and the teaching skills needed to train new instructors

Muzzleloader—Basic & Instructor—teaches safe operation of Muzzleloading firearms and the teaching skills needed to train new instructors
