The Silver Beaver Award, introduced in 1931, recognizes adult leaders who have made an exceptional impact on the lives of youth through their dedicated service to Scouting at the local council level. Congratulations to this year’s Silver Beaver Award Recipients! Their commitment, leadership, and passion for Scouting inspire us all!

Meet the Class of 2025

Erin Crowley

Erin Crowley has been a Scouting volunteer for 15 years and currently serves as Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 22, a girl troop in the Arrowhead District. Erin has made a lasting impact through her work in advancement, communications, and inclusion across multiple districts and councils.

Erin’s Scouting resume includes roles as committee chair, advancement chair, and roundtable commissioner. She currently serves on the council communications committee and has helped lead major events like NH KidsFest, Into the Woods, and the World of Scouting. She is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow and a three-time Wood Badge staffer and proud member of the Fox Patrol! She serves as the Trading Post Adviser in the Passaconaway Order of the Arrow Lodge.

From launching the first girl troop in her council to amplifying Scouting through media, Erin is proudest of the youth she’s helped grow into leaders—especially through moments of firsts, breakthroughs, and belonging. She is passionate about using her talents in photography, writing, and project coordination to support youth in their Scouting journey. Professionally, Erin is the Executive Coordinator at Bedford Public Schools.

Erin lives in Dracut, MA, with her partner Josh Ratty and son Seamus (19), an Eagle Scout.

Michele Forrestall

Michele Forrestall has been a steadfast supporter of Scouting for over 17 years. As the District Advancement Chair for the Historic District, she has helped hundreds of youth on their path to Eagle—especially those with special needs—always ensuring every Scout has the support and opportunity to succeed.

Michele’s Scouting journey has included roles as Cubmaster, Den Leader, Advancement Chair, and Crew Committee member. She helped establish the Able Scouts Committee to promote inclusive programming and continues to be a tireless advocate for youth of all abilities. Her honors include the District Award of Merit and the Torch of Gold Award for service to Scouts with special needs. Michele is most proud of the Scouts she’s helped reach their goals—especially those who were told they couldn’t. Her belief in their potential continues to inspire the entire Scouting community.

Professionally, Michele is a teacher and team leader at Spaulding High School, where she supports students who have experienced trauma and helps them gain the skills to thrive. Her program goal is for her students to achieve academic success, improve behaviors, and to develop 21st century skills that enable them to reach their goals.

She lives in Raymond, NH, with her husband Jim and is the proud mother of three Eagle Scouts: Seamus (24), Sean (21), and Liam (19).

Adam Godbout

Adam Godbout has brought passion and a strong sense of inclusion to his Scouting service for more than a decade. He currently serves as the Chartered Organization Representative for Troop 603 in the Massabesic District, where he works to ensure every Scout feels welcomed and supported.

Adam’s Scouting journey includes serving as Cubmaster, Pack and Troop Committee Chair, and a three-time Wood Badge staffer. He also played key roles in the council popcorn campaign and chaired the popular council event "Into the Woods”. Adam has been an active member of the Council Executive Board and Executive Committee. One of Adam’s proudest achievements is creating a safe and affirming space for a trans Scout who had been excluded from another troop.

Outside of Scouting, Adam is involved in community beautification and enjoys projects that allow him to give back while spending time outdoors. Professionally, Adam is the Vice President of Projects at MFI Productions.

He lives in Hooksett, NH, with his wife Jillian and their three children—Andrew, Jamie, and Zoey—all of whom have been involved in Scouting.

Barry Hantman

Barry Hantman has been committed to Scouting for more than three decades, with 13 years as a youth and over 20 as an adult volunteer. Currently serving as Crew Advisor for Crew 13 in the Historic District, Barry is a champion of faith-based service and youth-led leadership.

He is especially known for his involvement in the Jewish Committee on Scouting at both the regional and council levels. Barry has represented the Scouting Jewish Committee at National Annual Scouting America Meetings. Barry has supported countless council activities, taught at Philmont Training Center, coordinated Scout Shabbat services, and mentored youth from Cub Scouts through Eagle. His many Scouting honors include the Shofar Award, District Award of Merit, Scouters’ Key, Unit Leader Award of Merit, and the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. Barry serves on the Council’s Duty of God Committee, served on camp staff, is a merit badge counselor, former OA Lodge Chief, and served as the contingent adviser for the Passaconaway Lodge excursion to the 2024 National Order of the Arrow Conference in Colorado.

Outside of Scouting, Barry enjoys global travel—having visited all seven continents—and has written about his journey to Baden-Powell’s home in Kenya. He is most proud of helping seven Scouts he first met as Cubs grow into Eagle Scouts.

Professionally, Barry retired from Raytheon where he worked in engineering management.

He lives in Danville, NH, with his wife Susan, and is an active civic volunteer—having served over 35 years on the Danville Planning Board.

Lloyd Hook

Lloyd Hook has quietly become one of the most influential contributors to Scouting in New Hampshire through his leadership, generosity, and unwavering dedication to youth. A registered Scouter for over a decade and currently serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 299 in the Mt. Monadnock District, Lloyd leads by example—whether guiding Scouts on the trail or swinging a hammer to improve council properties.

Lloyd’s Scouting journey began as a unit-level volunteer, here he served in roles ranging from Tiger Adult Partner and Assistant Webelos Leader to Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Member. Today, as Scoutmaster, he mentors youth through hands-on learning, outdoor adventure, and character development. He also serves as a merit badge counselor and participates in nearly every event hosted at Hoge Base. His service extends beyond the troop. At the council level, Lloyd has made substantial contributions to the Daniel Webster Council’s camp properties. He donated time, materials, and labor—valued at over $50,000—to construct standing seam metal pavilion roofs at both Hoge Base and Hidden Valley. He is currently leading a renovation of the Hoge Base cabin to meet safety and accessibility standards—all free of charge and on his own time.

Outside of Scouting, Lloyd supports his local community through volunteer construction projects, including work for the Tunbridge Grange. He is described by fellow Scouters as one of the most effective leaders seen in over 40 years of local Scouting. Professionally, Lloyd owns and operates Defying Gravity Construction and brings the same commitment to excellence in his trade to his volunteer work. Whether he’s building roofs or building character, Lloyd’s heart for service, hands-on leadership, and deep commitment to youth make him truly deserving to be recognized.

He resides in Lempster, NH, with his wife, Kathryn, and daughter Nora, and son Bennett, who just earned his Eagle Scout and is well known throughout the district for his humble service and unmatched work ethic.

Taewon Jin

Taewon Jin has dedicated more than 17 years to serving youth through Scouting, both in the U.S. and abroad. Currently an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 603, he is a steadfast leader in both unit-level and council shooting sports programs.

His Scouting journey includes time as Scoutmaster and five years as an active member of the council shooting sports committee. He completed Wood Badge and served as National Youth Leadership Training Program as an Assistant Course Director in 2024. Taewon is also the founder of the Korean-American Youth Program, which offered archery, camping, and cultural programming around the Boston area.

A certified USA Archery instructor and coach, Taewon has been working with local high school by offering archery program twice a year for several years. He also organizes and hosts church youth and college ages retreats Taewon’s proudest Scouting memory is earning the Korean Tiger Scout award—similar to the Eagle rank—in 1973. Professionally, Taewon is a database architect and president of Phoenix Business Computing, LLC.

He resides in Hooksett, NH with his wife, Jiyoung.

Jean Martel

Jean Martel has dedicated over 50 years to Scouting America, serving most recently as Scoutmaster of Troop 290 in the Massabesic District. A lifelong advocate for youth development, Jean has made it his mission to ensure every Scout has access to the outdoors and the opportunity to succeed, even spending his own resources to assure of this access.

Jean’s decades of service include leading camp projects, mentoring Eagle Scouts, and coordinating over 30 years of Ordeal projects at Camp Carpenter and Griswold Scout Reservation. He has served on property committees, the Catholic Committee on Scouting, and training and camping committees. His Scouting honors include the OA Founder’s Award, District Award of Merit, Vigil Honor, St. George Award, Bronze Pelican, and the Scoutmaster Award of Merit. Jean is an active member of the Ranger Corps for the Council. Jean has only missed one Catholic retreat in the past 45 years!

Known affectionately as ‘Froggy’ at camp, Jean is perhaps proudest of helping Scouts find their confidence, grow into leaders, and return to serve the program that shaped them. My proudest time in Scouting is watching Scouts emerge from their shells to become Eagle Scouts and having two former Scouts who have gone on to become Scoutmasters. Professionally, Jean is a Certified Public Accountant and partner at Picchi & Martel CPA, PLLC.

He lives in Manchester, NH, and has contributed his leadership to parish life, local bands, and countless troop activities.

Paul Smith

Paul Clifford Smith has dedicated much of his life to the ideals of Scouting and service to youth. An Eagle Scout since 1998, Paul has been continuously involved in Scouting America for nearly three decades. Currently serving as Cubmaster for Pack 77 in the Wannalancit District, he exemplifies servant leadership.

Paul’s Scouting journey includes serving as a District Executive and Scoutreach specialist, a museum docent at the Lawrence L. Lee Scouting Museum, and an active trainer and program planner at the council and district levels. He has served on national staff for the 2010 National Jamboree and was the founding leader of a Sea Scout ship in the Abnaki District. His broad range of leadership includes roles from Assistant Scoutmaster to Chartered Organization Representative. Among his numerous Scouting honors are the National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award (2017), Daniel Carter Beard Award (2010), Wood Badge (2007), Sea Badge (2010), Powder Horn (2008), and Brotherhood membership in the Order of the Arrow. He is also a DeMolay Legion of Honor recipient and a dedicated Freemason, having led multiple Masonic lodges and currently serving in a global leadership role in the York Rite. Above all, Paul considers earning the rank of Eagle Scout his proudest achievement, a milestone that has continued to open doors and shape his values throughout his life.

Professionally, Paul serves as the Clerk of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, where his knowledge of parliamentary procedure and commitment to civic engagement shape his daily work. Outside of Scouting, Paul officiates high school football and recently coached his son’s basketball team. As an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Concord, NH, Paul sees faith as deeply intertwined with the values of Scouting.

He resides in Hopkinton, NH, with his wife Jennifer and their two children, Henry and Maggie.

Michael Woods

Michael Woods started his Scouting journey as a Cub Scout in Raymond, New Hampshire where he earned the Arrow of Light before joining a Scout Troop where he would hike the trail to Eagle Scout in 1995. Mike was elected to the Order of the Arrow by his peers in 1994, where he would hold a myriad of positions up to Lodge Vice Chief. He was bestowed the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow in 1999 and currently serves in the Passaconaway Lodge as Associate Lodge Adviser for Administration.

Mike has served with dedication in local, district, council and national positions! He has been a Den Leader, Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and Troop Committee Chair. He also serves the Historic District as a committee member and Eagle Board of Review member. Mike has served on staff at the 2023 National Scout Jamboree and has been approved to serve on the 2026 National Scout Jamboree. Service at all levels is Mike mantra! Wood Badge trained and an active Council Shooting Sports Committee member and instructor, Mike strives to do his best for others. Mike is certified as a Camp master and Short Term Camp Administrator to help the Council camps in the non-Summer season. Mike was bestowed the District Award of Merit in 2022 and earned the 25-year BSA Veteran’s award earlier this year.

Professionally Mike works for the State of New Hampshire as an Information Technology Manager. When not in Scouting Mike enjoys cooking, shooting sports, but most of all family time! His proudest moment was watching his son, Matt earn the Eagle Scout rank and knowing his son Ethan is not far behind!

Mike lives in Newmarket, New Hampshire with his wife Melissa and sons Matt (16) and Ethan (12).
