Eagle Scout Rank Application and Board of Review
On this page:
Your Eagle Scout Rank Application
Your Eagle Scout Rank Application will be submitted electronically along with several other documents. (If the Eagle badge in the upper left corner does not say “Scouting America” you are using the wrong version of the form – download the application form only from this site.)
If your unit is using Scoutbook to track advancements and all of your information is up to date there, you can print an application pre-filled with your personal information, dates, merit badges, etc.
Otherwise, download the current Eagle Scout Rank Application form from https://www.scouting.org/resources/forms/ (If the Eagle badge in the upper left corner does not say “Scouting America” you are using the wrong version of the form – download the application form only from this site.) This is a “fillable pdf” file: Download it and type your information directly into your copy of this form – be sure to save it when are finished entering all information or if you take a break.
Be sure to fill in both sides of the application completely up to but not including the “LOCAL COUNCIL VERIFICATION” line. If you fill in the application by hand, be sure it is clearly legible, and both sides are in a single pdf file.
References
As part of Eagle Scout Requirement 2 you must list the names and contact information for four references. Your references may be Scout leaders, teachers, employers, coaches, and other Scouts. You are strongly discouraged from using parents or other relatives as references. Your current unit leader and committee chair are not eligible to serve as references; their signatures on your application are their endorsement. (If either of them declines to sign your application, you must attach your explanation for the absence of the signature(s).)
It is your responsibility as an Eagle Scout candidate to contact the people listed to request letters of reference, and to make a diligent effort to ensure that the requested letters are submitted – so choose your references accordingly, and be prepared to explain at your board of review what diligent efforts you made to ensure that letters would be submitted.
For instructions on where people should submit letters of reference for your Eagle Board, see Submitting Eagle Scout Letters of Recommendation.
The letters are confidential, not intended to be seen by you, your parents/guardians, unit leader, committee chair, or anyone other than the sitting members of your Board of Review and administrators, as necessary. They will be destroyed after successful completion of your Board of Review or any subsequent appeals.
Statement of Ambition and Life Purpose
Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook
When you submit your Eagle Scout Rank Application, you must also submit your Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook as a pdf file.
Signatures on the proposal, fundraising application, and report should be included. If necessary, you can scan or take photos of the signature pages and submit them as separate files.
Before, during, and after photos of or drawings for your project should be brought to the board of review; these should not be submitted with your workbook.
Other Files to Be Submitted With Your Application
See Exceptions and Special Cases and when you submit your application be sure to upload any documents that apply to you.
Submit Your Application
When your application and all other required documents are completed, in pdf format (except for photos of signature pages, in jpg format if necessary), and ready to send, submit everything (except references, which should go directly from the authors to the Eagle Board) at https://nhscouting.org/advancement/eagle-scout/submit-eagle-application/. Please do not submit links to documents on Google Drive, One Drive, Dropbox, or other cloud services. All files submitted must be in pdf format, except photos of signature pages, which may be in either pdf or jpg format.
After you submit your application, it will be validated by the Council staff and forwarded to your Eagle Board Chair. You will be contacted by your Eagle Board to schedule your Board of Review. (If you are not contacted within 3 weeks, you may ask your Eagle Board Chair about the status of your application. (See Eagle Boards in Scouting America New Hampshire for contact information.)
Your Board of Review
When your application and all other required documents have been submitted, they will be reviewed by the Council Eagle Administrator. This may take 2 weeks, or longer if there are any blank spaces on your application or any questions about your registration or advancement history. After the documents have been validated, they will be sent to your Eagle Board. (Remember, the Eagle Board that approved your project proposal will be the one to conduct your board of review.) Your Eagle Board Chair or Admin will contact you to schedule your board of review. This could take a couple weeks, possibly as long as a month, depending on the schedule of the Eagle Board.
If you haven’t heard anything for a month after submitting your completed Eagle application and related documents, please contact support@nhscouting.org with details of who you are, your unit number, which Eagle Board you are using, and when you submitted your application and related documents.
Come to your Board of Review in a complete a scout uniform as you own, clean and neat in appearance, and bring your unit leader or project mentor/advisor/coach, or other leader of your choice as your escort; this cannot be a relative. Bring 3 copies of your project workbook. Bring before/during/after pictures of your project; one copy of these is sufficient. Bring any references that were delivered directly to you in sealed envelopes. Arrive a few minutes early, in case a previous meeting with another scout ends early, and be patient if a previous meeting runs a little late. Be prepared to discuss your entire scouting career, not just your project. If you plan a presentation about your project, plan on just 5 minutes: The board members will ask questions about things they want to know. In most cases an Eagle board of review is a positive experience, and if have completed all of the requirements and you come well prepared, yours will be too.
