Abnaki District Pinewood Derby 2019
When: Saturday, March 16, 2019
Where: Dover Elks Lodge 184
Cost: $4 each car
Open to all Cub Scouts and siblings registered in Abnaki District.
You must be present to race unless otherwise approved by the race committee.
All cars must have been built after September 1st, 2018.
All cars must be built by the Scout registering the car, parent/adult assistance is encouraged but
the Scout must participate in the construction of the car.
Each Pack may register 3 Scouts each for Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos, and Arrow of
Light den for a maximum of 18 Scouts and also 3 Siblings from the Pack may register.
All races will be held on an 8 lane track with an electronic finish line. Each racer will race 8
times, the best 7 will then be totaled for a final time.
We are using GrandPrix Race Manager software to schedule and score the races.
There will be two set of racing times (Lions, Tigers and Wolves) (Siblings, Bears, Webelos, and
AOL). Racers will register as they enter the Elks Club and will be given a number for their car.
Even with everyone racing against other ranks, the computer keeps their time compared with
their own rank. We will have 3 winners for each rank and 3 winners for Siblings!
Each car will have a time recorded at the finish line.
All decisions by the race committee are final.
Abnaki Derby Rules:
Inspection: Cars will be inspected during registration for compliance to the specifications set
forth below. All cars will be assigned a number for identification. Cars are to be built by the
Scout with assistance from a parent/adult.
It is the intent of the race committee to have the races fun and competitive.
The following rules are to provide a level playing field in which any Racer has the opportunity to
do well without expensive machinery or tools.
Extensive modifications to wheels and axles are not permitted. Improvements such as removing
the molding marks on wheels or ridges on the axles are not allowed. See below for more
information on wheels.
Wheels: All cars are required to use BSA wheels and axles. No washers, bushings, bearings or
springs are allowed.
No reductions in width or changes in shape are allowed. Wheels cannot be domed or reshaped.
Wheel Placement: Use of the axle slots on the body is not required but the underbody
clearance must be maintained.
Impound: Cars will be impounded at registration. The application of additional lubrication is not
allowed after registration. Repairs will be limited to replacement of axles/wheels that are broken
or lost during the races. Bring your own parts, tool, and lubrication. Cars may not be
modified after passing inspection.

scales. All weights must be firmly attached to the car and not able to shift with movement of the
