Shawn Elder joined the Daniel Webster Council professionally in 2005 as a District Executive for the Sunapee District but his service in the council goes as far back as 1991, when he served a the aquatics director for Camp Carpenter.

Shawn joined the Boy Scouts in Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1975 and earned his Eagle in 1981. As a youth, he participated in Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Exploring, and a prototype program now called Varsity Scouting. When Venturing was introduced in the late 90’s, Shawn started the first Venturing Crew in Vermont.

Shawn has served as a volunteer since 1985, many years of which were here in the Daniel Webster Council, but also in the Green Mountain Council, VT and Grand Teton Council, ID, where he was awarded the District Award of Merit in 2004.Shawn graduated from Brigham Young University - Idaho with a degree in Recreation Leadership, and a double emphasis in Animal Science and Resource Management.

Shawn served as a missionary for two years in Australia, and continues to do his Duty to God, by serving as an Elder for his church, a lay clergy position.  Shawn enjoys outdoor recreation, photography, travel, and spending time with his wife Kim, and their 4 children, Alex, Jacob, Hannah, and Katie – all of whom are involved in scouting.
