APEX – SUMMER | WEEK 1

AQUATIC ADVENTURE
Week One: June 25-July 1, 2017 | $425 in DWC, $450 Out-of-Council
Open to Boy Scouts who have earned First Class Rank or higher and all co-ed Venturers

If your Scouts / Venturers cannot get enough of being in the water, this is the week for them!  Participants must pass the BSA Swimmers Test to qualify.  Participants will have the opportunity to complete (or re-experience the skills from) all Aquatics Merit Badges: Swimming, Kayaking, Rowing, Canoeing, Small-Boat Sailing, Motorboating, and Lifesaving.  Other Aquatic opportunities like Mile Swim, Polar Bear Swim, Aquatic Craze and Water Skiing and Tubing will also be part of the fun!  This is an advanced adventure where you can complete advancement and experience both camps at Griswold Scout Reservation in new and unique ways!  Participants check-into Hidden Valley on Sunday and will spend the first half of the week there.  The second half of the week, participants will shift camps to also experience the best of Camp Bell!  Check-out is from Hidden Valley on Saturday morning at the end of this week you won’t soon forget!  Open to individuals, buddy pairs, Patrols, Troops, and Crews!


BARNYARD ADVENTURE
Week One: June 25-July 1, 2017 | $450 in DWC, $475 Out-of-Council
Open to Boy Scouts who have earned First Class Rank or higher and all co-ed Venturers

Start the week completing Farm Mechanics and Animal Science Merit Badges at Hidden Valley and then transition to experience life on the Camp Bell Farm!  Spend each day sampling a different aspect of Farm Life!  Enjoy learning about and caring for our ten horses, beef cows, baby goat, pigs, dozens of chickens, ducks, and more!  Gardening, Insect Study and Horsemanship Merit Badges and plenty of other rodeo games will keep you busy amidst your very full week of fun and learning!  This is an advanced adventure where you can complete advancement and experience both camps at Griswold Scout Reservation in new and unique ways!  Participants check-into Hidden Valley on Sunday and will spend the first half of the week there.  The second half of the week, participants will shift camps to also experience the best of Camp Bell!  Check-out is from Hidden Valley on Saturday morning at the end of this week you won’t soon forget!  Open to individuals, buddy pairs, Patrols, Troops, and  Crews!


CARAVAN ADVENTURE 
Week One: June 25-July 1, 2017 | $475 in DWC, $500 Out-of-Council
Open to Boy Scouts aged 14+ or older and all co-ed Venturers

This awesome week will have participants spend every night in a different place around our expansive 3,700-acre Reservation.  How will they get between those destinations??  Horses, ATVs, Mountain Bikes, Kayak or on foot!  Their traverse will be met with various challenges which will test your other survival and first-aid skills!  Participants will be certified in All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Institute Rider Safety Course and have the opportunity to earn (or re-utilize skills for) Horsemanship MB, Kayaking MB, partials in Hiking & Backpacking MBs and Cooking MB.  All participants will be Leave No Trace Awareness qualified at the end of the experience.  This is an advanced adventure where you can complete advancement and experience both camps at Griswold Scout Reservation in new and unique ways!  Participants check-into Hidden Valley on Sunday and will begin their backcountry traverse from there while on their way to also experience the best of Camp Bell!  Check-out is from Hidden Valley on Saturday morning at the end of this week you won’t soon forget!  This program requires hiking and carrying one’s own gear and water.  Refer to the Adventure Packing List in the promotional materials.  Open to individuals, buddy pairs, Patrols, Troops, and Crews!


CLIMBING ADVENTURE
Week One: June 25-July 1, 2017 | $425 in DWC, $450 Out-of-Council
Open to Boy Scouts aged 13+ or older and all co-ed Venturers

Do you love to climb?  This aggressive week features bouldering, Low COPE & High COPE elements, indoor rock climbing and tackling some daunting 60’ back-country natural rock faces!  Climbing Merit Badge (or equivalent skills) will be part of what you can take from your experiences at this APEX!  This is an advanced adventure where you can complete advancement and experience both camps at Griswold Scout Reservation in new and unique ways!  Participants check-into Hidden Valley on Sunday and will spend the first half of their week there.  The second half of their week, they will shift camps to experience the best of Camp Bell!  Check-out is from Hidden Valley on Saturday morning at the end of this week you won’t soon forget!  This program requires use of arm and leg strength in a variety of climbing settings.  Personal climbing gear/attire/footwear is allowed at the discretion of the instructors.  Open to individuals, buddy pairs, Patrols, Troops, and Crews!


TARGET ADVENTURE
Week One: June 25-July 1, 2017 | $450 in DWC, $475 Out-of-Council

Recurve and compound bows… target and field archery as well as Sporting Arrows… .22 Rifle… Tomahawk Throwing… You will get to experience all basic levels of shooting available across the Griswold Scout Reservation as you either start working toward Rifle Shooting and Archery Merit Badges or complete some lurking partials from the past!  Participants check-into Hidden Valley on Sunday and will spend the first half of their week there.  The second half of their week, they will shift camps to experience the best of Camp Bell!  Check-out is from Hidden Valley on Saturday morning at the end of this week you won’t soon forget!  There are no additional ammunition costs as they are already built into the overall fee.  Participants are not allowed to bring personal firearms or bows or ammunition of any kind per National BSA policies.  Open to individuals, buddy pairs, Patrols, Troops, and Crews!


TIME TRAVEL ADVENTURE
Week One: June 25-July 1, 2017 | $475 in DWC, $500 Out-of-Council

As the title suggests, this week will take you as far back as the Native Americans (where we will work on Indian Lore MB) and as far forward as the space program as it ventures into the galaxies beyond!  Off-site travel by DWC Bus will take you to the Lawrence L. Lee Scouting Museum in Manchester while we work on Scouting Heritage MB and then visit the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord while we are working on Space Exploration MB!  Metalwork MB and Horsemanship MB will be prominent in our learning as we discover the role chivalry played in the early development of Scouting worldwide!  We will even investigate some medieval customs and games.  There is no other program like this one and space is limited!  This is an advanced adventure where you can complete unique advancement and experience two field trips as well as both camps at Griswold Scout Reservation in new and unique ways!  Participants check-into Hidden Valley on Sunday and will spend the first half of their week there when not traveling off-site to Manchester and Concord.  The second half of their week, they will shift camps to experience the best of Camp Bell!  Check-out is from Hidden Valley on Saturday morning at the end of this week you won’t soon forget!  Open to individuals, buddy pairs, Patrols, Troops, and Crews!
